ABOUT THE FILM
"A powerful documentary about courageously letting go, a deep longing for freedom, and the discovery of what truly matters in life. "
At the heart of the story is Sebastian – a young, nature-loving man with a talent for craftsmanship and a deep passion for wood. He lives in southern Germany, nestled in the beautiful Black Forest, and his life is filled with external expectations, constant stress, and the pressure to perform, making decisions based on external standards and increasingly neglecting his own truth.
His inner calling grows ever louder, and after several setbacks, he frees himself from external expectations and embarks on a journey that will change him forever.
He sets off as “Bamboobasti” on his self-built bamboo bicycle – to experience the world, to feel it, and to question his life up to that point. Twenty-six countries, countless encounters, unforgettable experiences with his 17kg bicycle and 70kg of luggage – sweat and dreams on two wheels.
As an ambassador for Plant-for-the-Planet, Sebastian planted 2,221 trees during his journey – each one a symbol of his connection to the Earth. And even today, he continues to advocate for a greener future.
He cycles east from Munich to Singapore. By the third day, he abandons his meticulously planned itinerary and spends time with old and new friends. His route takes him through forests, over mountains, and along rivers.
He sleeps under the stars, spends the night in a military restricted area, experiences rock climbing, and even parachutes into the abyss.
In Thailand, his chain breaks, then his gears jam, and after 12,000 km, he gets his first flat tire. In the end, he has almost 20 flat tires and more than 12 new tires. For two years, Sebastian cooks over a campfire until he finally buys a gas stove in San Francisco: What a luxury!
After almost three years and 40,000 km, Sebastian returns to Germany.
Upon his arrival, the next change is imminent: Back in his home village, with the desire to create a place of community, the protagonist once again loses his balance and ends up with burnout.
... From the ashes, Sebastian embarks on his next adventure:
An inner journey to his true self.
LET IT GO & GROW is more than just a visually stunning world tour. It's a story of growth—from functioning to feeling, from being driven to creating. It's about the importance of letting go in order to rediscover oneself.
With his authentic, natural style, Sebastian takes viewers on a journey filled with emotions, challenges, and insights.
This film is for everyone who feels deep inside: There's more to life!
And for everyone who is ready to forge their own path.
